How Does The Disease manifest?
Psoriasis is a skin disease that is considered as being one that runs in families, in that it is genetic and if someone in your family had it, you have a chance of getting it. However the way that it runs through generations is unknown at this point, and so there is no way at all of telling whether you will get it, even if someone in your family definitely had it.
Children and Psoriasis / Eczema.
Psoriasis in children basically works the same way that it does when it affects adults, in that there is a showing of red patches over areas of the skin, and dry flakes that tend to fall off of the skin. The severity of the symptoms is the main factor in if you notice the disease or not, regardless of whether it is an adult or child affected, often you do not even know you have psoriasis if the affected area is on a hard to reach area.
However if you do notice symptoms of psoriasis or eczema in children, then you are going to want to make sure that you get them into the doctor as soon as you possibly can, so that you can be given a definitive answer in regards to whether they actually do have psoriasis or not, as well as be given options of treatment methods that can be used.
If you need to reassure yourself that you can help your child live with the disease, ask your doctor any and all of the questions you can think of. Also remember however that there are many different forms of treatment available for psoriasis and eczema and so you want to make sure that you do not freak out and that you realize that there are so many different types of help that are available to you and your children here and so you really should not be worried.
Psoriasis and eczema can be a blight on your life, causing you itching and pain as well as sometimes unsightly patches of red and flaky skin, but more often than not the symptoms are minimal and your child’s life will be unaffected by the diagnosis.
